The second problem dealt with overheating problems on one of the overflow turbines. The cooling fins had a buildup of lime deposits from the untreated water used to clean the fins. Baking Soda was used to clean the cooling fins. Due to the cleaning properties of the friable soda crystal, all of the contaminants were removed. The turbine was put back on line, and the overheating problems were eliminated. Blast-It-Clean has been called back to perform several follow-up cleaning projects for this plant.
Lawrence Energy Center – Dry Environment – Dry Ice Cleaning
Power Plant Cleaning
The energy center in Lawrence, Kansas suffered fires in the main line of switchgear. There were 8 housing units damaged in the fire. The fire occurred in July during the peak demand for electricity. The solution was dry ice cleaning the interiors of the cabinets and the brass connections of the buss fuses. We were contacted Saturday night to arrange for the emergency cleaning. Arrangements were made for Dry Ice to be manufactured and picked up on Sunday. Blast-It-Clean dispatched a hotshot unit to pickup the ice and have it in Lawrence by Monday morning. The cleaning process was started on schedule Monday morning and was completed by Tuesday afternoon. What would have taken 7 – 10 days to clean by hand was cleaned in 2 days. The plant went back into production as scheduled without a power outage.
